Great White Egrets have never been a common bird in Euriope, but they are now undergoing an increase. Fifty years ago small numbers bred in Austria and the Balkans but over the past 20 years numbers have increased and since 1978 birds have bred in Holland and increasing numbers are appearing in northern France.

There are two records from Guernsey, both seen on a single day at west coast locations. The first was seen initially at Fort Le Crocq and then refound later the same day at Fort Hommet. The second record was also from Fort Le Crocq .

1996: 1 at Fort Le Crocq, 26th October

1998: 1 at Fort Le Crocq, 31st January
